DanceLive, Scotland’s only festival dedicated to contemporary dance, takes place across Aberdeen from the 4 -15 November. Now in its 6th year, this year's festival comprises of 14 events across 8 venues and plays host to 4 premieres as well as Aberdeen’s first Youth Dance Careers Day.
Programmed by Aberdeen dance agency Citymoves, the 2011 festival has a focus on home-grown talent and also features performances from some of the UK’s most exciting dance companies. Below are some of the highlights.
- East Coast Moves on the 9 Nov will showcase 4 new works by local dancers, including: Artistic Director Andy Howitt's new piece with Alan Grieg, GOD (Grumpy Old Dancers); Aberdeen Dance Collective will perform a new work by Errol White; and local choreographers Hayley Durward and Katie Milroy will be showing work in Aberdeen for the first time.
- On Saturday 12 November, Citymoves present Dance Hotel. Described as a journey into the 1940s, join them for a tour through other people's hotel rooms and a glimpse into their lives and memories.
- Headline events at His Majesty's Theatre feature Scottish Dance Theatre's Letters from America on 8 November and National Dance Company Wales' Autumn Tour on 15 November.
- Soundings, in partnership with the sound festival, is a quadruple bill of dance and music on 10 November, with works by Michael Popper, Rosalind Masson and Smallpetitklein Dance Company.
Also look out for DanceLive on Film; showing some of the best dance films and films about dance, with Sacred Monsters and Sutra at The Belmont, and Pina at Woodend Barn. And finally…DanceBites is at the Bon Accord Shopping Centre everyday throughout the festival showcasing different dance styles of dance.
