People Making Waves | Conflux | Curious | Human Race

The Scottish Project forms part of a UK wide initiative by Legacy Trust UK and features a diverse range of cultural, sporting and educational activities, bringing together thousands of volunteers, artists and the public, to leave a lasting legacy from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Focused on reinforcing the Olympic and Paralympic values, the £4.3 million programme includes a £1.5 million investment from Creative Scotland and is made up of four major strands of activity:

People Making Waves

People Making Waves is a nationwide volunteering project aimed at connecting volunteers in Scotland to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the values of the Olympic Movement in general. It aims to encourage people to learn new skills, make new connections and try something new through taking part in the voluntary sector. There are four strands to the project:

  • Make a Splasha project run by Voluntary Arts Scotland that aims to encourage participation in arts and crafts activities.
  • Wave of Friendship - a volunteer exchange programme that encourages and supports the exchange of volunteers within Scotland and between Scotland and London.
  • A Scottish Wave of Change – a large scale project that aims to examine and explore what kind of Scotland, society and communities we want to see in the future.
  • My Volunteering – a digital database where individuals can record their personal volunteering experiences.

Curious

Glasgow Museums & Glasgow Life LogosCurious is an innovative project that aims to celebrate Glasgow’s multicultural communities. The project has four strands:

  • A year-long community-led exhibition.
  • A learning programme focused on Cultural Awareness.
  • A schools programme reflecting the approach of the Curriculum for Excellence.
  • A conference in 2012 with international delegates reflecting on the impact of cultural programmes supporting international events such as the Olympic and Commonwealth Games.

Curious is a Glasgow Life initiative being delivered by Glasgow Museums.

Human Race

Human RaceHuman Race will give audiences the chance to explore the history, culture and science of sport & exercise on the human body.

The project is centred around a year-long, touring exhibition and an innovative programme of events, talks and workshops, that will bring together objects, images and film from numerous Scottish collections for the very first time. The exhibition will explore Scotland’s pioneering role in sport and exercise medicine, and address some of the many far reaching and fascinating themes that surround the culture of sport.

An integral part of Human Race will be a series of newly commissioned artworks by emerging artists, giving them the opportunity to exhibit their work to a wider audience.
